If you live or own a business in the City of Winters, you might wonder what joining VCE will mean for you.
Simply stated, VCE’s mission is to deliver clean electricity at competitive prices.
But we do more than that. VCE offers additional benefits to our customers, such as cleaner electricity than you get from PG&E for the same price, local control, and a chance to opt up to 100% renewable and carbon-free electricity. You can read more about our story here.
Doesn’t cleaner energy have to cost more?
Not with VCE. Your costs will be just the same as they’ve been with PG&E when you join VCE, our Standard Green provides higher levels of renewable energy than the electricity that’s currently available from PG&E. Our 45% renewable power costs about the same as their 29% renewable power. Sure, that might seem like a small step forward, but remember—the revenues from this program stay at home to support our local economies, creating jobs and green infrastructure, rather than to utility company shareholders. That’s a big difference.
If you want to do even more to reduce your carbon footprint, you can opt up to our premium UltraGreen level that offers you 100% renewable, carbon-free electricity. Going UltraGreen costs just 1.5 cents more per kWh than our standard service.
How can our electricity be locally controlled?
VCE is a not-for-profit public agency that was formed by—and for—our local communities. We’re led by a Board of Directors comprising locally elected officials from each participating community. When the City of Winters joins in 2020, two Winters City Council members will be added to the VCE Board of Directors, ensuring that your interests are always represented.
