Valley Clean Energy makes key new hire
DAVIS, Calif. – Feb. 18, 2020 – Valley Clean Energy is pleased to announce the hiring of Gordon A. Samuel Jr. as its new assistant general manager and power services director. In this position he is responsible for acquiring a diverse supply of clean renewable resources.
Samuel brings more than 27 years of experience in the electric utility industry to his new position, having served most recently as power procurement manager for MCE, California’s first community choice aggregation (CCA) program.
Valley Clean Energy is Yolo County’s CCA, dedicated to providing clean, safe, reliable and affordable electricity to its 54,000 customers in the cities of Woodland and Davis as well as the unincorporated area of the county. The city of Winters is VCE’s newest member.
“We are delighted to welcome Gordon Samuel to Valley Clean Energy,” said Don Saylor, a Yolo County supervisor who chairs the VCE board of directors. “His expertise in all phases of resource planning and procurement will benefit our agency tremendously.”
Added Mitch Sears, VCE’s interim general manager, “Gordon has adjusted quickly to the ever-changing regulatory landscape in California. He’ll be a huge asset for VCE going forward.”
With 25+ years’ experience leading resource planning and acquisition, marketing and trading, and regulatory compliance, Gordon brings a wealth of experience to the VCE team. In addition to working for MCE, Gordon also spent 2 years with a start-up battery storage integrator company (Doosan GridTech) developing key relationships with investor-owned and public utilities, independent power producers (IPP), and electric cooperatives. The bulk of Gordon’s career was with Arizona Public Service Company (APS) where he had several roles including the procurement of numerous large-scale wind, PV and solar thermal projects.
“Highlights in my career include power procurement, safety, service reliability, competitive rates and sustainability, with a commitment to community,” Samuel said. “These are just a few of several areas in which I can further the success of Valley Clean Energy.”
