When VCE launched the Electric Advisor program in 2024, the idea was simple: make it easier for our customers to go electric. By 2025, that idea had moved well beyond “potential”, and the results are in.
Electric Advisor is a free service for VCE residential customers that connects them with a trained electrification expert. Over the years since VCE launched in 2018, we’ve heard the same challenges come up again and again from customers who are interested in electrification:
- A lack of trusted, financially neutral information
- Confusion about which incentives apply to which technologies
- No easy, no-cost way to get personalized guidance
Electric Advisor was created by VCE, with initial program funding from Yolo County, to solve exactly those problems.
Taking the Guesswork Out of Going Electric
We promote Electric Advisor as a way to simplify the electrification journey, and that’s exactly how customers are using it. Through the program, VCE customers get access to a team of friendly, knowledgeable professionals who can help with everything from answering basic questions to building a step-by-step plan.
Electric Advisors can help:
- Understand electrification technologies
- Review home energy needs through virtual consultations
- Find contractors
- Navigate and help customers apply for available rebates and tax credits
- Create a customized whole-home roadmap for going electric
And the best part? The service is completely free for VCE customers.
A Look Back at 2025: What Customers Asked For
Jumping on the “year unwrapped” trend, here’s what we learned from Electric Advisor activity in 2025¹.
People had questions.
Our customers kept the phones ringing and the chat box flowing! We received a consistent flow of inquiries.
Incentives topped the list.
Nearly a quarter of all cases (24%) were driven by one big question: “Which incentives are available?”
Certain technologies stood out.
Batteries, heat pumps, and water heaters accounted for about two-thirds of all inquiries. Customers also asked about rooftop solar, induction cooking, electric dryers, panels, wiring, and EVs, showing just how wide-ranging electrification interest has become.
Customers liked us, they really liked us!
Almost all customers give Electric Advisors a 5-star rating, reflecting consistently outstanding experiences. Two-thirds of participants said their needs were completely or mostly met during the call.
The call was just the beginning.
For many customers, the conversation sparked real action. About half of all cases led to next steps like getting project quotes and applying for incentives.
What We’re Learning (and Why It Matters)
The 2025 results reinforce the core idea behind Electric Advisor: clear, trusted, and financially neutral guidance helps people move from curiosity to action.
Whether someone is exploring heat pump technology for the first time or trying to untangle a stack of rebates and tax credits², having a knowledgeable partner makes a difference. Our case reviews and customer feedback show that Electric Advisor is doing exactly what it was designed to do: serve as a trusted, no-cost resource for our community.
We’re proud to support customers across Davis, Winters, Woodland, and unincorporated Yolo County as they explore cleaner, more efficient energy options.
